Jane E. Quinlan
Regional Superintendent

With the advent of spring, schools are in that in between place where you are looking at closing out the current year and planning for the next one. We are in the same place at ROE 9. We hope you will contact Jeri Callaway, ROE SchoolWorks Director, or Tim McIlvain, Area 4 Learning Technology Director, for assistance with your professional development planning for FY2017. They have a cadre of consultants who are available to present onsite training on multiple topics for your staff.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), in conjunction with the Regional Offices of Education, is host a listening tour on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ISBE staff will present overview information on ESSA and allow participants to share ideas on the implementation of this new law at these meetings held at locations across the state. More information is available at

One of the meetings will be held in Champaign. Don’t miss this opportunity to have input into ESSA in Illinois.

   Date:  Thursday, April 21, 2016, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Location:  Illinois Terminal, 45 E. University Ave., 4th Floor, Champaign

ROE 9 will host an External Review Team from AdvancEd on April 3-6. The five-member team will be in the region to interview ROE staff and stakeholders, to examine artifacts and evidence, and to determine the extent to which ROE 9 meets AdvancED Standards for Quality for educational service agencies (ESAs), We look forward to the insight and information that they will provide to our continuous improvement efforts.

Beginning January 2014, the GED test was updated. The test is offered only on computer and candidates must register and pay online.
