Regional Office of Education #9
Champaign - Ford Counties

Programs: Rantoul Adult Education Program

The Champaign and Ford Counties Regional Office of Education, in cooperation with Parkland College, houses the Adult Education Program for the Rantoul area. Following the guidelines set forth by the Illinois School Code, the Adult Education Program offers a variety of classes designed to help under-educated individuals increase their skill levels and become more productive citizens.

Classes offered through the Adult Education Program are as follows:

  1. Adult Basic Education - these classes consist of basic reading, mathematics,
and English skills leading to the completion of eighth grade achievement.

  2. General Education Development Preparation - These classes consist of reviewing
material covered in the General Education Development Tests. Passing these
G.E.D. Tests gives an individual a High School Equivalency Certificate. The areas
of study are English Grammar, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies,
    Writing Skills and the Constitution.

  3. English As A Second Language - These classes are available for foreign-born
students who have a desire to learn American English. These classes teach
speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.

All classes are free to eligible adults. One can enroll at anytime during the school year. Students complete their work on an individualized, self-paced basis.

The Adult Education Program operates Monday through Friday on the second floor at the Regional Office of Education. In addition to the day classes, the program offers evening Adult Basic Education and G.E.D. preparation classes.

The Adult Education Program is funded by the State Adult Education Program, Public Assistance Funds and the Federal Adult Education Program. The Illinois College Board disperses these funds.

The Adult Education Program is governed by an intergovernmental agreement, whereby Parkland College is the fiscal agent of the program.
