Golden Apple Scholars Class of 2013

Purpose:  To recruit talented high school students who want to become teachers.

Nominations are being accepted for the Golden Apple Scholars Class of 2013. We invite counselors and teachers to nominate high school students in the Class of 2013 who have the potential to excellent teachers. Simply call Patricia Kilduff for a nomination form. Scholars will receive $2500 each year for their freshman and sophomore years and $5000 each year for their junior and senior years. With the addition of the Summer Institute stipends of $2000 per summer, the total financial assistance package is $23,000.

What the Program Asks of the Scholar in Return

• Earn a bachelor's degree at one of the 53 participating univerisities or college
• Participate in each of the four Summer Institutes
• Obtain an Illinois teaching certificate (Grades Pre-K through 12)
• Teach for five years in an Illinois early childhood, elementary, middle or secondary school of need

• April 2012 - Nominations open
• November 2012 - Nominations close
• February 2012 - Selection of Golden Apple Scholars Class of 2013
• Spring Reception for Scholars Class of 2013
• June 2013 - Summer Institute opens
• July 2013 - Summer Institute closes
