Attendance Improvement Program (AIP)
Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education 9 and school districts in the region collaborate to improve student attendance. The systemic and restorative program offers both truancy intervention services through the Attendance Improvement Program for truants and chronic truants in K-8th grade and an optional education alternative, Re-Start Program, for potential dropouts in 9th-12th grades.
The Attendance Improvement Program employs a three-tiered approach that includes prevention-oriented supports and monitoring of student attendance data for all students in Tier 1, early intervention and a higher level of support for truants in Tier 2, and intensive supports for chronic truants in Tier 3. Case managers support truants and chronic truants with Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
The Re-Start Program provides GED coursework, career planning and work experience for potential dropouts. All levels of support include the following components: monitoring data, engaging families and students, recognizing improved attendance, providing personalized outreach, and removing barriers.
The Attendance Review Council (ARC) with representatives from districts and other stakeholders meet regularly to support district implementation of Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports, monitor the effectiveness of both programs, and identify additional community resources to support the improvement of consistent daily attendance and graduation rates.
