In response to a growing demand from educators across the region, the Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education #9 and ROE SchoolWorks is launching a new professional learning series centered on effective writing instruction in K–8 classrooms.

Titled “The ‘Write’ Stuff: Developing Successful Writers,” the year-long series is designed to equip teachers with practical, evidence-based strategies to strengthen student writing skills across all grade levels and content areas. The initiative comes after consistent feedback from educators identifying writing instruction as a priority area for professional growth.

The series is grounded in research-based practices, including strategies aligned with The Writing Revolution and the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan. The learning experience will be highly interactive and tailored to participants’ real classroom challenges, allowing educators to immediately apply new strategies in their instruction.

Participants can expect a strong focus on building foundational writing skills, including sentence construction and structured writing processes, while also exploring ways to increase student engagement through authentic, student-centered tasks. The program will also address practical classroom needs such as pacing writing instruction, assessing student work efficiently, and integrating writing across subject areas.

In addition to instructional strategies, the series aims to foster collaboration among educators by creating a supportive professional community where participants can share ideas, problem-solve, and learn from one another in a non-judgmental environment.

The learning sessions will take place at the ROE #9 Media Center, with meetings scheduled throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Each session will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and registration includes professional development hours, instructional resources, and lunch.

ROE #9 and ROE SchoolWorks is committed to providing relevant, high-quality professional learning aligned to the needs of today’s educators. With writing playing a critical role in student success across all disciplines, the “Write Stuff” series aims to build teacher confidence and ultimately improve student outcomes throughout the region.

Registration is now open through ROE SchoolWorks.
